Molecular characterization of a species in the genus Rubus in Boyacá, Colombia

Abstract Colombia is home to blackberry genetic resources which present a morphological diversity. The relevant characteristics related its diversity are the presence of prickles, shape leaves, number and color fruits, enormous agro-industrial potential due bioactive compounds such as polyphenols. These plants can grow between 1,700 3,400 m asl cultivated in central region country. study evaluated 13 wild from genus Rubus. A molecular characterization was carried out using 16 SSR microsatellite markers, all produced positive amplification generating 23 loci 26 alleles. AMOVA indicated differentiation 23% groups corresponded geographic location sample. greatest contribution variance found within (76%), possibly because each them composed different species relatives This suggests that grouping genotypes studied doesn’t necessarily correspond geographical origin. However, findings show high variation, with an Fst value 0.27. may be useful breeding programs where diversity, identification fruits taken into account.
